Hydroxyapatite Coated Collars
Stanmore Implants began developing the HA collar as a response to unacceptably high infection levels found with massive prostheses used in bone tumour resections.
The
idea is simple; by placing a ring of HA at the end of the implant that is
interfacing with the bone resection, bone is encouraged to grow across the
union. It is this bony union which spans the bone implant interface that has
dramatically reduced aseptic loosening of implants.
Hydroxyappatite collars are supplied as an option in all METS modular massive implant kits and are also incorporated into custom implants. We recommend HA collars where possible to enhance implant stability over the long term and as a means to dramatically reduce the possibility of aseptic loosening.
