Implant Fixation
Extra Cortical Plates
First
developed in the 1950s from research and bone tumour cases and reintroduced
in the 1990s, the latest generation of extra cortical plate technology provides
patients with excellent long term fixation and implant stability. This technique
is particularly beneficial in cases where there is insufficient intra medullary
canal length available to fit a conventional stemmed prosthesis.
Intra Cortical Plates
Intra cortical plates were developed for implant fixation into the metaphyseal and diaphyseal regions of bone where a conventional stemmed prosthesis could not be used. This type of fixation offers additional options for limb sparing surgery.
