| Smiles™ Superstabilised Knee |
|
The SMILES™ superstablised knee replacement has
been developed at the Centre for Biomedial Engineering and is designed
to maximise range of joint movement, minimise wear and improve stability.
It is available in three sizes: Standard, Small and Extra small.
Uniquely, using our CAD-CAM technology, we can also provide a totally
individualised knee where for example miniaturisation is needed.
The automated knee design system is built on extensive experience
and in-depth research into knee kinematics, knee arthroplasty and
CAD-CAM techniques. The knee has various design features that optimise
it's performance:

| • | Large surface area and metal reinforcement provide enhanced support to varus-vulgus moments. |
| • | The three sizes of knee replacement are individualised by using custom-made stems, plateau plates and space-fillers. |
| • | Increased length of trochlea surface improves patella tracking. |
