Bone tumour limb salvage in the skeletally immature is now recognised
as an acceptable reconstruction method, providing the opportunity
to maintain limb length equality via the use of an extendible implant.
In 1976, we designed and inserted the world's first extendible massive
replacement. Over the last three decades, the extending mechanism
has evolved and we now use an internal worm-drive mechanism.
